Hands up, who hasn’t started their christmas shopping yet? Are you planning on leaving it all to the last minute and panic buying on Christmas eve?
I am far too organised to leave it so late, but for those of you still scratching your heads and trying to come up with ideas for all your loved ones, I have some help for you!
You may not know this, but the National Galleries of Scotland have some amazing little independent shops within the Galleries here in Edinburgh. To be honest, I had no idea until they invited me along to have a look around.
I was totally amazed with how incredible their stock was. There really was something perfect for everyone, and the best part is that all profits go back into the National Galleries of Scotland. Also, how could you not love that everything is Scottish?
The Princes Street shop was the more unique and quirky shop out of the two on The Mound. It was full of colour and really cool little bits and pieces. Really, I wanted to pick up one of everything! It is quite a small space, but was set up well and was perfectly coloured coordinated which is just so dreamy!
This little store is filled with lots of homey bits and plenty of stationery, and who doesn’t love stationery?? There was an insane choice of mugs, though I really do have a big enough collection as it is, I wanted to grab them all! Also, This little section had the most amazing teapots, perfect for the tea lovers in your life!
The selection of books is also just wonderful! They have a huge selection to choose from ranging from coffee table books to children’s books and everything art related in-between!
As much as I loved the Princes Street shop, I have to say the main store blew me away! Now, I may be slightly biased cause I just LOVE Christmas, but it was just beautiful. It was perfectly stocked full of christmas goodies and I had to be dragged away from all their decorations!! Again, there was such a great selection of products to suit everyone. They had a great little book shop set up at the back and a fabulous children’s section.
This store also had a glistening jewellery counter, full of lots of pretty, sparkly things for that lovely lady in your life!
But most importantly, it was FULL of christmas decorations! There are soooooo many to choose from, and ones that you would just never see anywhere else. I would need a few christmas trees, but I would happily get them all and fill my house with them!
It was so amazing to be able to have a look around the two stores and see the selection of products the National Galleries have put together. Before going I never would of thought of even looking in the galleries for christmas gifts when out doing my shopping but now it will always be on my places to do some shopping.
The National Galleries of Scotland themselves are just incredible. Scotland is so full of talent and seeing that first find is just something special. Even if you aren’t shopping, it really is worth popping into the Galleries for a look at the artwork, you will be blown away!
You can even end your shopping trip with some yummy afternoon tea in The Scottish Restaurant, which I highly recommend. They have lots of festive cakes and some of the best scones in town!!
If you are in Edinburgh, you can visit the National Galleries on Princes Street, at the bottom of the Mound. They are free to enter for the main exhibitions, though some special exhibitions are ticketed. And if not, you can find a selection of the products and find out more about the artwork on show on their website.
