Recently, I have been trying to convince myself to like porridge. I know, how can a Scottish person not like it?! I think working in a kitchen and making massive pots of it scarred me but times are changing! It is such a great thing to have in the morning to keep you full up until lunch time. I have been making it home with coconut milk and changing up the toppings to keep it interesting, and I think I really am starting to love it.

So, with my new found like (I wouldn’t say love yet!!) for porridge, I headed to the Eteaket store in Edinburgh over the weekend for the Groats pop up. I have been following them on Instagram for soooo long and constantly drooling over their pictures, it all looks too good to eat!!

I decided to make a morning of it before meeting my dad and sister for a day at the Fringe. I met up with my friend, Irene, on Rose street and headed for breakfast. It was also my first visit to Eteaket and I have to say, it is the cutest little shop. Perfect for all you tea lovers out there!

We were given the menu, and it was such a tough decision to make, they all sounded amazing. If I could’ve, I would have got one of each! Irene opted for the cold bowl and I went for the Banana and Cacao Granola.

The cold bowl was a special for this pop up at Eteaket. This one was earl grey tea soaked oats, chia pudding, coconut yoghurt, raspberry compote and raw pistachios. I tried some of it and it was to die for. Such a perfect combo, I totally love earl grey paired with raspberry, such a dream!

My choice was the Banana and Cocao granola, and it was the tastiest breakfast I’ve ever had. It was almond milk, oats, banana, cocao & coconut granola, coconut yoghurt and date syrup. I have been loving banana with my porridge just now so this was the perfect combo. Can I have this for breakfast every day??

I have only just started to like porridge, but this is a total game changer! It was all made fresh to order and was just the right portion size to fill you up. They also couldn’t have been any nicer, offering to add more toppings if we wanted and giving us the option to try out the different compotes before we picked the flavours we wanted. For a pop up event I wasn’t expecting anything magical, but this was far better than what you could possibly imagine. The service was spot on and the food was perfect!

I would 100% recommend hunting down Groats around Edinburgh and trying out this super tasty porridge. There is a pop up somewhere around the city every week, so whether you live here or come up for a visit, you will be able to get it somewhere.

The pop ups get announced on Instagram so make sure you are following Groats for updates on where to find them next. You will probably see me at them all now slowly making my way through the whole menu!
